A Case Statement In Support
Of Our Plans To Renew And Restore
Our Church Facilities For The Next 150 Years
Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Parish is a vibrant faith community that dates back to 1865. For the past 150 years, our parish has been ministering to the needs of our community. And while facilities and faces have changed over the years, one thing remains the same…our commitment to Christ, to one another, and to our community.
Our parish today is an active community comprised of over 1,200 households. Led by a dedicated pastor, associate pastors, deacons, and strong corps of lay leaders and volunteers, there is an increasing number of ways that people of all ages can participate in the spiritual, educational, social and service ministries of our parish.
Yet, despite our strong heritage of activity and accomplishment, some significant challenges still remain.
In early 2014, Fr. Joe Steinbauer assembled a Strategic Planning Team made up of leaders from all three parishes to discuss the future of the Sandusky Catholic Community. Since that time, over one hundred Sandusky Catholics participated in a process to create a vision for the future. That vision includes a focus and list of priorities that allows us to leverage our resources while at the same time maintaining three separate parish identities and associated facilities. These priorities include addressing deferred and future maintenance projects at all of our facilities.
Our beautiful church building is in need of improvements and repairs to address some maintenance, repairs and technology upgrades to better meet the ministerial needs of our 21st century Catholic community. Additionally, we need to support the capital needs of Sandusky Central Catholic School as well as fortify our Capital & Future Projects Fund to continue our parish’s legacy for the next 150 years.
Facility improvements and repairs include tuckpointing the church and rectory, refinishing the church floors, reinforcement of the choir area supports, gutter repairs and drainage improvements, lighting upgrades, gathering space maintenance and upgrades, removal of the former convent and expanding parking, and support of improvements at Sandusky Central Catholic School.
